  • Why Don’t YOU Work for Free?
A few weeks ago, I came across a picture of a letter sent to a newspaper in response to an article they had run some point earlier. I didn’t track down the article it references but I did find that the author of this letter. Pretty interesting that she (andrea vicari) is from Miami but […]

Last Saturday (Oct 22), I played a gig with a talented young country singer named Katie Smith. I was recruited for this date by my guitarist, Rusty Frith, who has been playing guitar, banjo, and mandolin for Katie for a little while now.

The stage was, of course, outside and the wind was whipping but the temperature was perfect. As you can imagine, a stage full of amplified acoustic instruments on a windy day can make for a busy sound man but he did his job well. Overall it was a lot of fun and a pleasure to work with Katie.

Rusty and I played a jazzy soundtrack for a 60th Birthday party the other night at The Basketcase in Dothan. It’s an honor to be a part of such a landmark event and, I must say, we had a blast. We got to meet some really great people, too.

Rusty broke out the mandolin and banjo for a couple of tunes. Have you ever heard Take Five on mandolin? Yea, it’s pretty awesome.

If you’ve never checked out The Basketcase Cafe in Downtown Dothan, you should stop by. They are open for lunch and have a great menu.

Rusty and I had the privilege of playing for the Alabama Jewelers Association the other day. It’s always fun to play in a duo setting because there are different challenges that come up from having a full band. It’s alway good, too, when the people who hired you are awesome.
