A few days ago, I was going through the iPod and landed on Booker Ervin‘s 1964 release, The Space Book(Prestige). This is one of those albums I can leave in my car’s CD player for weeks and never get tired of it.

Ervin (tenor sax) was only in the recording scene for for twelve years (due to an untimely deathfrom kidney disease at the young age of 39) but he definitely made hismark. He played and recorded with a lot of great musicians and was amainstay in Mingus’ band for seven years.
On The Space Book, Ervin leads an awesome rhythm section - comprised of Jaki Byard (piano), Richard Davis (bass), and Alan Dawson (drums) – through four tracks of avant-garde laced BeBop.
I hope you guys dig it and would love to hear your thoughts.
