OK, I’ll admit it, my internet consumption borders on unhealthy. While this may be detrimental to my eyesight and social life, it is great for my music library and awareness.
One thing I do a lot is listen to internet radio. I put it on at work and listen while I pencil push. However, there are times when I want to hear something fresh and “live” and Pandora just can’t deliver. That’s when I hit up one of my favorite sites for streaming music, Smalls Jazz Club (see more resources for online Jazz consumption here). Smalls is a jazz club located in Greenwich Village, NYC. One really cool thing about Smalls is they have a live video feed from 7:30 pm to 3:30 am (EST). On top of that, many of the sets end up in the audio archive and can be streamed for free.
While looking through the artists, I came across a 2008 performance by a group called Das Vibenbass. I can’t say for sure that I have never heard of this group but I can say I’ve never heard them. Unfortunately, judging by their website, they aren’t currently active but there isn’t anything that indicates a break up. I also came across their blog which is almost a year out of date. Sucks but at least I can dig on the music they’ve made until they make some more (if they do). The album, Don’t Forget Where The Sun Sets, (2009) is a nice example of the role vibraphones can play in Modern Jazz.

These cats hate playing…
